Day 2: Lagunitas High Westified Coffee Stout

I love Lagunitas, and I love High West. So what can go wrong with this collaboration?

-Appearance: No Head just the slight bit of carbonation on the top of the glass. Pitch black and Syrupy.

-Nose: You get the whiskey for sure, but not necessarily the sweetness that you might get with bourbon barrel aging. More of a spicy rye nose. A little bitterness on the nose from the coffee but not much.

-Palate: Great syrupy mouth-feel. You get a lot more coffee on the palate. Chocolate notes  from the coffee go perfect with the rye whiskey flavor.

-Rating: 4.25/5: One of the best barrel aged beers I’ve ever had. One of the most balanced beers that I’ve had recently, which is usually hard to find with a barrel aged beer. All in all this is one of the best beers I’ve had in about a year. I had this beer about two years ago when they were only putting it out in 22 ouncers it good then and it is great now. Now that they are putting it in six pack you can get at $9.99! After two of these 12% ABV beasts you are going to be wasted! Talk about bang for your buck…

-Cheers!
