Day 17: Unibroue La Fin Du Monde

For World Beer Wednesday I am going to visit our neighbors to the North. Where Unibroue makes what some consider to be one of the best beers in the World. La Fin Du Monde is a beer made in the Belgian style, so I’m expecting ripe banana flavors out of this guy. Admittedly I’m not the biggest fan of Belgian Ales. They seem to be either really good or miss the mark entirely. At the end of the day, time spent drinking a beer no matter how good or bad, is time well spent.

La Fin Du Monde translates to the End of the World, and at times here recently it seems like that the end is nigh, so lets have a pint!

-Appearance: Nice carbonated pop once you release the cage and pop the top. Lots of head. So much so that I had to wait after the first pour to finish off the pint. Its bottle condition so that should be expected. Crisp goldenrod in the glass.

-Nose: Yeasty, banana, and clove. Typical Belgian beer notes right away. Which I believe is what the brewer is going for and is very successful.

-Palate: This shit is Bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S. Everything else, the cloves, the breadiness, is all very understated. Since everything is a little bit understated it is very refreshing. With a great mouth-feel, I could drink a few of these, but at 9% that could become a hairy situation.

-Rating: 3.5/5: It’s good Eh! You get a very refreshing, delicious Belgian style ale. Usually I am not a big fan of the Belgian style. But leaving a lot of the big flavor identifiers understated, makes for a very balanced brew. One of the best beers in the world? That’s a rather bold claim.

-Cheers!
