For the FINAL day of 30 Beers in 30 Days and we are staying close to home again and trying Skookum Brewery out of Arlington Washington. I’ve tried many of their IPAs which we have actually had on tap at the store but I have never had any of their darker brews. So lets give stout Tuesday one last go and have a pint.
-Appearance: Flat black with a bit of a head that lingers in one way or another throughout the pint. Very opaque and you are not seeing through this bad boy.
-Nose: Bourbon and oak as soon as you crack the top. Brown sugar and vanilla but really big bourbon. All culminating into almost a milk chocolaty nose.
-Palate: Thick, creamy mouth-feel, browned malt with cola notes. You really get the brown sugar and vanilla notes on the palate as well. Coffee and a bit on the nutty side of things too. It’s almost too much bourbon but not in a boozy way. I actually don’t get many boozy notes at all but after all it’s only 9% ABV.
-Rating 2.75/5: Nothing that special, but the mouth-feel is great and the actual flavor notes that you get are very pronounced and flavorful. Just nothing I’d ever write home about. I’ve had much better beers during this project but all in all I feel like this is a decent beer to cap it off with. Now for a giant glass of red wine.
This post is part of a series of posts in the 30 Beers in 30 Days project. Enjoy!
